The National Academy of Medicine’s (NAM) Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience (Clinician Well-Being Collaborative) is hosting a virtual convening on Reducing Documentation and Administrative Burden on January 31, 2022, from 10 am-1 pm EST.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the American Medical Association updated Evaluation and Management (E/M) CPT codes in January 2021, with multiple revisions intended to adjust documentation procedures that cause administrative burden. The overarching objective of this meeting is to take the principles of implementing these code changes to address documentation-related administrative burden, and apply them to the broader concept of putting policy change into action.

The NAM Clinician Well-Being Collaborative aims to assemble policy and health care stakeholders and clinician stakeholders to:

Discuss successes and challenges in operationalizing documentation policy change
Examine the impact of these specific coding revisions on administrative burden
Identify opportunities to inform the process of policy change on a broader scale

This convening will feature breakout sessions and speakers from the American Medical Association, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and several institutions that have collected data and reflected on their future directions.

AGENDA
Session 1: Putting Policy into Practice
Session 2: Linking Policy Change to Engagement and Well-Being
Session 3: Lessons for Reducing Administrative Burden in Other Areas

This meeting is first in a series of convenings hosted by the Mobilizing National Stakeholders Working Group of the Clinician Well-Being Collaborative. Learn more: nam.edu/CW
