Attendees will also discover how competency-based education (CBE) can impact and improve teams, patients, and communities by promoting skill development and collaborative practice. 11:35 AM - 12:35 PM ET KEYNOTE ADDRESS • Competency-Based Education: Transforming Excellence in Health Professions Education Elaine Van Melle, PhD, (ret) Senior Education Scientist, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Competency-based education is rapidly being adopted across the globe. This keynote address will describe a common framework that can be used to guide the implementation and evaluation of competency-based curricula. Also considered will be the relationship between competency-based education and the potential for transformation of health professions education. Together we will address the question of how to ensure that the adoption of CBE achieves the desired reform required to achieve a positive effect on health outcomes. 12:35 - 12:50 PM ET INNOVATION BOOST • 15-Minute Break 12:50 - 1:10 PM ET COLLABORATION HUB • Promoting Values and Ethics Amy Akerman, MPAS, PA-C, Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, University of Colorado (CU) CHA/PA Program; Assistant Director, CU Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education In facilitator-led breakout groups, participants will examine how IPECP fosters teamwork and shared decision-making in various healthcare settings, and how the IPEC Core Competencies contribute to these outcomes. Attendees will discuss how they have been able to integrate the Values and Ethics sub-competencies in their programs, as well as challenges to the adoption, implementation and assessment of the competencies. 1:10 - 1:40 PM ET COLLABORATION HUB • Aligning Roles and Responsibilities Kim E. Fenesy, DMD, Vice Dean, Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences In facilitator-led breakout groups, participants will explore how IPECP enhances team dynamics. Attendees will discuss how they have been able to integrate the Roles and Responsibilities sub-competencies in their programs, as well as challenges to the adoption, implementation and assessment of the competencies. 1:40 - 1:55 PM ET INNOVATION BOOST • 15-Minute Break 1:55 - 2:25 PM ET COLLABORATION HUB • Fostering Communication Gerard E. Carrino, PhD, MPH, Dean, Julia Jones Matthews School of Population and Public Health, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center In facilitator-led breakout groups, participants will share how IPECP can promote open dialogue, mutual respect, and shared understanding to improve patient outcomes and team effectiveness. Attendees will discuss how they have been able to integrate the Communication sub-competencies in their programs, as well as challenges to the adoption, implementation and assessment of the competencies. 2:25 - 2:55 PM ET COLLABORATION HUB • Enhancing Teams and Teamwork Jennifer Watson, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCFS, FNAP, ASHA-F, Emeritus Professor, Davies School of Communications Sciences & Disorders, Texas Christian University Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences In facilitator-led breakout groups, participants will focus on how IPECP can strengthen team dynamics, improve collaborative skills, and prepare learners to work seamlessly in diverse settings. Attendees will discuss how they have been able to integrate the Teams and Teamwork sub-competencies in their programs, as well as challenges to the adoption, implementation and assessment of the competencies. 2:55 - 3:10 PM ET INNOVATION BOOST • 15-Minute Break 3:10 - 3:40 PM ET PLENARY SESSION • Addressing Determinants of Health in Competency-Based Education Tracey L. Henry, MD, MPH, MS, Associate Professor of Medicine and Faculty Advisor, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Emory University; Assistant Health Director, Grady Primary Care Center; Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow, National Academy of Medicine The plenary presentation will examine how CBE can integrate social, economic, structural, and environmental factors into healthcare training. Attendees will learn how incorporating these determinants into competency frameworks can better prepare health team members to combat health disparities and optimize outcomes for all patients. 3:40 - 4:10 PM ET TRACK 1: Curriculum Mapping John Ragsdale, MD, MS, FACP, Associate Dean for Curriculum, College of Medicine, University of Kentucky College of Medicine The session will cover the benefits of curriculum mapping, such as improving coherence, addressing gaps in content, and supporting both learner success and faculty collaboration. Participants will be introduced to tools and methods for creating and maintaining effective curriculum maps to embed IPECP. TRACK 2: Faculty and Preceptor Development Jessica S. Kruger, PhD, MCHES®, Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Community Health and Health Behavior and Director of Teaching Innovation and Excellence, School of Public Health and Health Professions, University at Buffalo, SUNY This session will provide an overview of faculty and preceptor development, focusing on strategies to enhance teaching effectiveness and support mentorship in clinical settings. It will also explore the integration of IPECP and CBE, emphasizing how these approaches foster collaborative learning, skill development, and improved patient care outcomes. 4:10 - 4:25 PM ET INNOVATION BOOST • 15-Minute Break 4:25 - 4:55 PM ET TRACK 1: Curricular Development with Collaborative Partners Sonia Gupta, MPH, MBA, Founder and President, United Against Inequity in Disease Haley Dion, MA, Executive Director, United Against Inequity in Disease This session will explore the intersection of IPECP, CBE, and curricular development, highlighting how these approaches can promote patient engagement and collaborative partnerships. Participants will gain insights into innovative curriculum design strategies and the importance of "outside thinking" to foster a more integrated, effective, and learner-centered healthcare education experience. TRACK 2: Implementation and Change Management Mary Dolansky, PhD, RN, FAAN, Sarah C. Hirsh Professor, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing; Associate Professor, Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences, School of Medicine; Director, Sarah Cole Hirsh Institute, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University This session will cover the key principles of implementation and change management, focusing on strategies for successfully integrating IPECP and CBE into existing curricula.
